It’s been five months since The Houghton Hotel opened its doors; an occasion which marked the evolution of hospitality in Johannesburg. Now complete, and having recently been named the Best Luxury Hotel in South Africa at the HOSCO Luxury Tourism Awards, the Houghton Hotel shows that it has more than lived up to its earlier promise.
“The Houghton Hotel is unique in many ways,” comments Wesley Grobler, General Manager of the hotel. “Few other establishments can match the quality of our hospitality or amenities; not to mention our magnificent location.”
Grobler is referring to the hotel’s singular site on a Jack Nicklaus- designed golf course, where the greens add to a lushly verdant landscapeenhanced by a canopy of trees. The view over this urban jungle is simply stunning, and is best enjoyed from the balcony of one of the hotel’s 60 stunning hotel suites.
These suites, each boasting exquisite interiors by DSGN, includes four presidential suites (measuring 120sqm), two junior suites (87 sqm) and 10 executive king rooms measuring 54sqm. There are, furthermore, eight twin rooms and 36 king rooms, sized at 48 sqm.
The hotel’s seven penthouses are in a league of their own, lavishly furnished by Stephen Pellerade, who drew inspiration from the most iconic hotels around the world. The result is a cocoon of layered luxury; a look and feel which mirrors the hotel’s atmosphere, recalling a nurturing sanctuary.
Added to this, five luxury double-storey penthouses, measuring between 350-450sqm, pamper guests with two en-suite bedrooms, two lounge areas and two dining areas. The luxury penthouses further feature an entertainment area, jacuzziand swimming pool, along with an integrated kitchen.
The iconic penthouse presents the same facilities on a grander scale, with guests enjoying 630sqm of space.
It is, however, the 830sqm Rockstar Penthouse which truly captures the imagination. Conceived as a discreet haven for celebrity and high-profile guests, this exceptional accommodation includes four bedrooms sprawled over two floors, accessed by a private elevator. Guests are able to enjoy a massage in their private spa treatment room, which is fitted with a steam shower, after a workout in the private gym. Alternatively, they can cool down in the swimming pool, relax in the jacuzzi or the entertainment area. With two lounge areas and two dining areas, there’s a mood to suit every moment, and 24-hour butler service ensures that no need goes unmet. A fully integrated kitchen and private wine cellar complete the experience.
The Rockstar Penthouse is more than a beautiful home from home, though. It’s the added touches that truly set it apart: French champagne on arrival, for example, along with Montblanc gifting and Top Drawer silk pyjamas.
At R68 000 a night, the Rockstar Penthouse is imagined as a truly special and exclusive retreat– but, that said, the hotel’s facilities offer a taste of luxury for all. These include the five-star Amani Spa, the Skybar with its awe-inspiring views, a Fitbar Gym and access to the golf course. Scrumptious meals are prepared at Nova Deli and H Restaurant, while private dining areas are available for those requiring a more intimate space. Executives are catered for, too, with a business and day lounge, equipped with four boardrooms, and outstanding event and conferencing facilities at The Venue. Added to this, with medical suites housing 12 different specialists, from a dentist to general practitioner and chiropractor, the Houghton Hotel’s standing as a one-of-a-kind destination that cares for every aspect of guests’ wellness and wellbeing is complete.
“We are proud to say that this is one of Johannesburg’s – and, indeed, South Africa’s – very finest establishments, as borne out by our inclusion in Leading Hotels of the World. It is a great pleasure to be able to present a space of this calibre,” Grobler concludes.
